Touch me again and I kill you..

Thoughts for: Thursday 26th January 2006

Phat Pipe! :: [22:58:00]
Phoned Karoo up on Monday and asked them to upgrade my connection to broadband and choose a certain option which will be best for me. Broadband good. It will be useful for me in both a work and leisure capacity and will do a lot better than my current modem/hometime connection. Wireless all the way methinks (With the aide of a router borrowed from Mr Wesamoto). The joys of wireless will mean me and my laptop can move around the house in a state of perpetual internet glee. Good things will come of this, mark my words.

Andromeda! :: [22:57:27]
I used to watch Andromeda a while back early in the morning when Channel 4 were showing it on and off. Never seen many episodes of the show, perhaps 7 in all. Last night I watched the first three episodes of the series however and I have to admit it's pretty good. It has some interesting ideas (I particularly like the idea of the Neitzchians) and it doesn't take itself seriously which is a good job really because most sci-fi's die horrible deaths for trying to be serious. This series is nowhere near Farscape good but it is still worth a watch from what I have seen so far. No doubt I am a long way behind the curve as Andromeda has been out for years but that hardly matters. Give it a go, you might like it.

Underworld Evolution :: [22:56:14]
Saw Underworld Evolution the other day, the film carries on immediately from the other film and expands the understanding of the viewer as to the origins and way in which vampiric society runs. It also clues us into a third race of superpowered beings, the True Immortals. The theme of the movie is very much the last one, a continuation of the struggles of Selene and Michael to survive. The opening scenes of the film are the much awaited past scenes although I have to admit to being slightly dissapointed to see only a single conflict in this setting (It's a cool setting and good idea, so a lot more of it would have been appreciated). I predict that the "special edition" DVD which always makes its way out these days will include more of the past battles, I hope so at least. The plot this time mostly revolves around the actual Corvinus brothers, ie- Markus and William, not to mention their father Alexander. The characters are well developed this time and not just the generic vampires we were often handed in the last film. The historian character was a particularly good addition. This film steps the duo up a few steps and there is some seriously powerful vampire combat going on throughout. In fact a very large proportion of the film is taken up by various action and combat scenes which are carried out with considerable style (Although sometimes the gun play gets a bit excessive). If you like action movies which are heavy on the action with some over stylish violence thrown in for good measure then this is probably the film for you.
