Supernaturally entertaining :: [21:23:14]I just watched the season finale of Supernatural. If you haven't seen any of this series then you are a tool. Assuming that you a tool I will give a brief rundown of the show so you can shake your tool status and join the rest of us. Supernatural is a show which is mostly about 2 brothers, Sam and Dean who spend their time dealing with supernatual occurances (hence the title of the show). They have been raised for this task as their mother was slaughtered by a demon when they were both small children and their father was consumed by a quest for vengeance. As it is now, their primary goal is to find the demon which killed their mother and exterminate it. Part of the series involves them attempting to find their father (Who went missing upon his crusade) and the rest is mostly taken up with a mixture of them encountering various supernatural entities (mostly as they tour the country looking for their father) and them actually fighting the demon they seek or it's minions (with a small side line involving the acquisition of a suitable weapon to combat the demon). This series is entertaining in the extreme, the music is shockingly good for a modern tv show, the action is exciting and definately worth watching, the various creatures encountered are different enough so that you don't get sick of them and a subplot in each episode pertaining to a particular event or series of events (anything from the brothers arguing, one-up-manship, romance, keeping innocents from knowing about supernaturals, etc.) which means the show does not fall into a 'monster of the week' category as most ventures into this genre do. The actors are well chosen and there is enough humour to make you laugh at points while the actors still retain the ability in their characters to portray very serious events and situations (unlike the poorly developed and scripted characters of other shows in this genre *cough*Buffy*cough*). The various portrayals of mythological beings are well thought out and seem to involve a depth of thought often lacking in American tv shows with similar themes (*cough*Charmed*cough*). In fact I am very fond of some of the portrayals of creatures in this series even when they differ substantially to what I would expect to have seen as they are pulled off in a sensible and imaginative way which is (usually) very close to the myths you will find if you ever research such entities. A final feature of this show I find ultimately satisfying is the refusal of the writers to make sweeping generalisations or take things from a single theological perspective (thankyou so much) which is a glaringly offensive weakness in other shows (*coughs*every other show in this genre*cough*). If you haven't seen this show you really should. If there isn't a season two (I have reliably heard there will be) then I will be a most angry Damo.
