It's more beautiful than I ever imagined! :: [11:13:24]
Command and Conquer: Tiberium Wars draws near and I am so psyched it hurts. Command and Conquer are the unchallenged gods of real time strategy and noone has ever even proved worthy to be a knight of the real time court in comparison to their obvious King status. To own a genre as exclusively as these people do is obscene. Oh sure there have been some very good RTS games over the years, but none of them are a match for the might of C&C. This game is looking as if it is going to set the bar higher than ever. The return to GDI and NOD is a controversial one considering that for many people they are what epitomises C&C but at the same time they can grow a little boring. But quite frankly if you want to play a RTS based on realistic military units then C&C is not going to be the series for you. One of the selling points of C&C has always been the outrageously imaginative and highly entertaining units it brings to the field of battle. Fans of the series will be glad to know that the Mammoth Tank is back to its old Supertank shape instead of the walker style deployed in Tiberium Sun. A good choice in my opinion as the walker was never up to all that much.

If you follow that link you will find a gorgeous screenshot of some mammoth tanks accompanied by orcas, infantry and lighter tanks making their way through the ruins of a city. Graphics look pretty damn good to me, especially considering that it's C&C and so will be keeping with the trend set by Generals, making everything interactive.

This link gives you a nice picture of some tanks rolling on out of a GDI base ready to kick some arse. Note the nice shadow work and distinct sense of scale which you get as the tanks move further from the screen.

This link demonstrates that ships are back and shows you some of the most beautiful water ever to grace a computer game. Check out the perfect shadow coming off that Orca closest to the screen. Excellent.

This link will take you to see some of the precious and iconic, not to mention classic GDI units and some of their new features, for example the ability of the Orca to use it's radar to detect stealth units, even going so far as being able to deploy a scanner in an area for you. I get the feeling the Orca's are going to be very useful for GDI players in the future.

Oh and finally the link at the bottom of the page takes you to the first official podcast with details of the new game. Enjoy my children. Enjoy.
